Transforming communities, together.
Mazí was born out of spirited dinner table conversations. It sounded a bit like…
“How many more decisions are going to be made in the name of supporting ‘health and well-being’ without actually translating to tangible, health-promoting experiences?! It can be more beautiful than this.”
We consistently saw negative outcomes stemming from a lack of clarity, capacity, education, empowerment and representation. We witnessed disproportional amounts of one-way, out-of-touch communication, uninformed programmatic and policy efforts, and a duplication of services within organizations. We’ve seen how these conditions lead to burnout cultures, where unfair asks to health & well-being leaders are the norm, and resources are directed to areas of low impact. We continue to see a need for human-centered solutions, bold visions, solution-oriented evaluations and intentional listening strategies.
In response, we developed a process of discovery that involves methodological excellence while maintaining a clear-eyed sensitivity to our clients’ toughest issues. We take a mixed-methods approach to social research that centers equity and voice, combining elements of both qualitative and quantitative data. We approach this work with a deep understanding of the dynamic ways in which we are held in connection with one another, and the impacts those connections have on our health. We believe the work of ‘togetherness’ isn’t simply a strategy to achieve goals. It is connection itself that provides the most robust path to sustained health and well-being.
Mazí, the Greek word meaning “together,” describes the art and science of health, the connections we share, and the philosophy of community health: we are healthier together. We decided to launch Mazí Health Consultants, as a way to be of service and as a creative expression of health and belonging.
